Man United riddled with injuries
The club has been riddled with injuries this preseason.
Leny Yoro and Tyrell Malacia have been ruled out by Ten Hag after both suffered knee injuries. Meanwhile, the availability of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelöf, Luke Shaw, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka remains uncertain.
This leaves Jonny Evans, Lisandro Martinez, and Diogo Dalot as the only fully-fit senior defenders. Martinez and Dalot have just returned to training after participating in the Copa America this summer.
Additionally, Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho are among the international players who recently rejoined the team at Carrington.
This situation leaves Ten Hag to assess each player’s availability on a case-by-case basis.
Ten Hag decides not to risk his players
The Red Devils will face Manchester City at Wembley.
While Ten Hag is keen to win the Community Shield this year, he is also prioritizing the health of his players.
“We always want to win, also in all the friendlies, it’s about a trophy, and we will put out a team that is very competitive to win this trophy,” Ten Hag said.
“But it’s also preseason. We don’t take big risks with players.”
