Manchester City agreed to buy Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig with a possible record fee in excess of €100m.
Gvardiol is set to become City’s second summer signing after the midfielder Mateo Kovacic, who joined from Chelsea.

Last season’s treble winners Man City are edging closer to announcing their second signing in the Summer window, as they have reached an agreement with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.
RB Leipzig want to make the 21-year-old Croatia international the most expensive defender in history, asking City for over €100m before a deal can be completed.
Personal terms have been agreed with the Premier League and Champions League champions. Medical will be next in line.
The defender is understood to have completed the first part of his medical on Wednesday, and the deal is on the cusp of being signed.
How good is Gvardiol?
He is at the young age of 21 and is very versatile. Gvardiol is a centre‑half who can also play as left‑back. He has a contract at Leipzig to 2027, strengthening the German club’s hand in negotiations, and they have been demanding at least €100m (£86.7m). So, he is good and has proven so for years.
The world witnessed Gvardiol’s excellence during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where he showed his master-class defending skills.
Gvardiol came through the ranks at Dinamo Zagreb and has been at Leipzig for two seasons, he joins a long list of central defenders at City, and it is packed with massive talents.
Manuel Akanji, Rúben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, Nathan Aké and John Stones play there. However, Pep Guardiola has used center-halves at full-back, and Stones has also been deployed in midfield.
