Manchester City ties Champions League’s unbeaten run record

The Premier League side dominated Slovan Bratislava 4-0 in Slovakia on Tuesday, extending their unbeaten run to 25 games in the Champions League.

Ilkay Gundogan, who made his return to City this summer, opened the scoring with a goal in the eighth minute.

Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, and James McAtee followed suit as City quickly asserted themselves in the first half.

Who did the City match?

Pep Guardiola’s side last suffered a Champions League defeat in a 3-1 semi-final second-leg loss to Real Madrid in May 2022.

The only other club to extend their unbeaten streak to 25 matches was none other than their rival, Manchester United.

The Red Devils remained undefeated from September 2007 until May 2009.

Alex Ferguson’s side won the competition in 2008 and then went on to secure 12 more victories in the 2008-09 season, reaching the Champions League final in Rome.

However, United’s run ended with a 2-0 defeat to Barcelona.

City will have the chance to break the unbeaten record when they face Sparta Praha at the Etihad Stadium on October 23.
