Savinho goes down with a right ankle injury
Brazilian winger Savinho was carried off the field in the 63rd minute after injuring his right ankle.
The forward left the pitch in tears after going down while driving into the penalty area.
Timo Werner scored his first goal of the season with an emphatic finish in the first five minutes of the game, before Pape Sarr doubled the home advantage 20 minutes later with a right-foot finish from 25 yards.
Matheus Nunes connected with a cross from Savinho in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time.
City manager Pep Guardiola said the club will find out on Thursday the extent of Savinho’s injury.
The injury crisis for City worsens
Savinho is the latest City player to be sidelined with an injury.
The reigning Premier League winners also lost Manuel Akanji in the warmup due to knee issue.
Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker, Jérémy Doku, and Oscar Bobb are also out.
2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri has been ruled out for the season with an ACL injury.
“Tomorrow we have two ‘keepers and Erling Haaland for a training session, the rest we don’t have,” Guardiola said.
The current injury crisis has reminded Guardiola of his early days at the club in 2016, when he first arrived.
“We are 13 players,” he said. “We are in real difficulty but we have to make the effort. The guys who played, most finished with problems and we will see how they recover.
“I think when we are in trouble like we are — because in nine years, I’ve never in this situation had this many injuries for this many reasons — in these situations, the players make a step forward. They are more together than ever.”
