ESPN reported that the deal includes an option to make the transfer permanent.

Villa agreed to cover a substantial part of Rashford’s wage and other performance-related bonuses.

The England international said on his Instagram post: “I would like to thank Manchester United and Aston Villa for making this loan deal happen.”

“I was lucky to have a few clubs approach me, but Aston Villa was an easy decision — I really admire the way that Aston Villa have been playing this season, and the manager’s ambitions.”

He added: “I just want to play football and am excited to get started. I wish everyone at Manchester United all the best for the rest of the season.”

Rashford last played for United during their Europa League victory over Viktoria Plzen on December 12.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa coach Unai Emery can count on Rashford’s experience for the second half of the season after the team reached the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday.

Villa is currently eight in the Premier League table.

End of an era

Although his departure is temporary, Rashford’s 20-year association with United may have come to an end.

He rose through the club’s academy and broke into the first team at 18.

However, the 27-year-old said that he was “ready for a new challenge” after being dropped from United’s squad for the derby against Manchester City on December 15.

Rashford scored 30 goals in the 2022-23 season but has struggled to reach that level since.
