Greenwood and top footballers charged with sexual assault
He was due to face trial in November over allegations of attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behavior.
However, the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material turned the case in a shock outcome, which was announced on 2nd of February, 2023 by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS):
“A decision has been made to discontinue prosecution in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors,” a CPS statement read.
A CPS spokesperson said: “A combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.”
The decision sparked angers all over the social media, with this is the second time in few months seeing two footballers dropped from rape or sex assaults charges.
Earlier, Benjamin Mendy was also declared not guilty of raping four women and sexually assaulting.

What’s next for Greenwood
The youngster has been included in Manchester United’s latest Premier League squad list, however, it’s understood that Greenwood will not play or train with United until the investigation is over.
So far, there is no timeframe for how long that might take, which means no one could be sure if the English footballer could make his comeback within this season.
Greenwood last played for United more than a year ago in a 1-0 win over West Ham on Jan. 22, 2022.
