Tel joins Tottenham on loan

Tottenham has an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

The Spurs had agreed to a €60 million deal for Tel, but he was unsure about making a permanent move.

However, Tel decided to join Spurs until at least the end of the season after talking with manager Ange Postecoglou.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich, subject to international clearance and work permit,” Spurs said in a statement.

“The France Under-21 international will join the Club on loan until the end of the 2024-25 season with an option to make the move permanent in the summer. He will wear the No. 11 shirt.”

Timely addition for Spurs

Tel joined Bayern from Rennes in 2022 on a four-year deal and extended his contract until 2029 last year.

The 19-year-old has scored 16 goals in 83 appearances for the German club.

However, he expressed his desire to leave Bayern due to a lack of playing time.

This season, Tel has started two Bundesliga games and made six substitute appearances but has yet to score.

Meanwhile, Postecoglou has been keen to strengthen his squad after injuries and poor form left the club in 14th place in the Premier League.

Tottenham is also preparing for a League Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool on Thursday, with Spurs leading 1-0 from the first leg.
