MEXICO CITY ASSURES ‘SAFE AND SMOOTH’ HOSTING OF 2026 FIFA WORLD CUP

Mexico City assures a “safe and smooth” hosting of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, officials said, amid security concerns in the past.

Furthermore, Mayor Clara Brugada disclosed that security will be a top priority by organizers for all of the matches to e staged in the country.

Moreover, the mayor confirmed that an estimated 40,000 new security cameras would be deployed to several strategic areas.

“We will be the most video-surveilled city in all of the Americas,” the mayor said.

Meanwhile, organizers vowed to stage a World Cup that’s free of homophobia, racism, and other civil liberties’ attacks.

FIFA had previously sanctioned Mexico due to homophobic chanting by its fans at stadiums.

OFFICIALS READY FOR MORE THAN 5 MILLION VISITORS

Officials are ready to welcome more than five million visitors, officials estimated, when it stages its opening match in the sport’s top global tournament.

Furthermore, the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be co-hosted by Mexico, United States, and Canada, from June 11 to July 19.

Moreover, Guadalajara and the northern industrial hub of Monterrey, will share hosting duties with the capital.

Mexican Interior Minister Rosa Icela Rodriguez assured fans that city officials will collaborate “to ensure” the safety of all fans.

“More than five million people are expected to arrive” for the Mexico City matches, she added.

AZTECA STADIUM SCHEDULED FOR RENOVATION IN TIME FOR 2026 EVENT: OFFICIALS

The Azteca Stadium is set for renovation, officials assured, in time for the 2026 tournament.

Moreover, the facility has hosted two previous FIFA World Cup finals.

Furthermore, general director Felix Aguirre disclosed that more than USD100 million will be invested to rebuild the stadium.

“It will be ready,” he said.

FIFA has since ordered the stadium to be renamed as the Mexico City Stadium due to its branding rules.
