What happened

Despite taking the first half lead thanks to Paulo Dybala, goal, Mourinho’s AS Roma were defeated by Sevilla in the Europa League final after the shootout.

Gianluca Mancini scored an second half’s own goal to draw the Spanish side level before his penalty kick was saved by Yassine Bounou during the shootout.

This was Mourinho’s first defeat in his six European finals, while Sevilla went on to win the record seventh Europa League title after the thrilling victory at Budapest.

After the game, Mourinho was filmed directing a string of expletives towards the officials in the car park.

According to Sky Sport and SportItalia, this is the exact words blasted by the former Real Madrid and Man United boss:

“It was an intense, vibrant game with a referee who seemed Spanish. It was yellow, yellow, yellow all the time,” Mourinho said.

“It’s a f*king disgrace!”.

The British referee had a tough game, having dished out 14 yellow cards – the most ever in Europa League game and played almost 30 minutes of stoppage time in total.

Will UEFA punish Mourinho for blasting referees?

UEFA are waiting on the referee’s match report before deciding whether to take any action against Mourinho.

Meanwhile, the 60-year-old manager remained uncertain of his future at the Italian side, having been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and Portugal National team.

“My future? I will go on holiday on Monday. We will speak. I told the owners that I’ll let them know first in case I will open talks with another club”. Mourinho mentioned his future after the defeat.

“I told the club when Portugal called me in December for NT job… as of now, no other clubs called me”.
