ALLEN TO STAY WITH CAVS ON 3-YEAR, USD 91 MILLION MAX EXTENSION, SAYS AGENT
Furthermore, expect Allen to stay with the Cavs.
He agreed to a three-year, USD91 million max extension, his agent Derrick Powell told ESPN on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-9 center is now guaranteed USD131 million over the next five seasons.
This is due to the new extension, said Powell, who represents Allen together with Jim Tanner of Tandem Sports.
Moreover, Allen averaged 16.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists for the Cavaliers last season.
He was an All-Star in 2022 but he was injured after four games in Cleveland’s first-round playoff series against the Orlando Magic last season.
Before his injury, the center tallied 17 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 68% shooting in the first four games of that series.
CAVS CENTER POSTED MOST SEASON DOUBLE-DOUBLES SINCE LEBRON JAMES ERA
Moreover, the Cavs center posted a career-high 42 double-doubles last season, the most by a Cleveland player since LeBron James (52) in 2017-18.
This was according to ESPN Stats & Information.
Furthermore, the 26-year-old played 81 straight games last season.
But a rib injury sidelined him for the final three matches of the Orlando series.
Allen joined Milwaukee Bucks All-Star forward Giannis Antekounmpo as the only players to average 15 points on 60% shooting last season.
He is also one of four players in the shot-clock era to average 15 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 60% shooting in multiple seasons.
The others were Artis Gilmore, Rudy Gobert, and Dwight Howard.
CAVS NOW HAVE MITCHELL, MOBLEY, ALLEN SIGN MAX EXTENSIONS THIS SUMMER
Furthermore, the Cavs now have Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, and Allen as their core players who signed max extensions this summer.
Mitchell was locked in on a three-year USD150.3 million max extension earlier this month.
On the other hand, Mobley signed a five-year, USD224 million max super rookie extension recently.
However, the biggest question among Cavs fans is how would Cleveland decide on Darius Garland’s fate.
Incidentally, Garland has lured interest from several clubs in the past, including the San Antonio Spurs.
However, the Spurs decided to acquire veteran point guard Chris Paul on a one-year, USD11 million contract last month.
