WESTBROOK GOES TO NUGGETS AFTER CLIPPERS-JAZZ TRADE FINALIZED

Westbrook goes to the Nuggets after a trade between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Utah Jazz was finalized.

The All-Star guard is expected to be waived by the Jazz after the trade before he will be taken by the Nuggets, sources said as reported by ESPN.

Utah will send guard Kris Dunn, the rights to Balsa Koprivica, a second-round pick swap, and cash to the Clippers.

Moreover, Denver gets Westbrook, who averaged a career-low 11.1 points per game in a reserve role for the Clippers.

On the other hand, the Nuggets have been interested in Westbrook provided he would be waived.

Denver needed the veteran guard after the Nuggets lost Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Reggie Jackson to free agency.

NUGGETS RESERVE ROSTER SPOT AFTER GUARDS’ DEPARTURES

Moreover, the Nuggets have reserved a roster spot apparently for Westbrook after the departures of Caldwell-Pope and Jackson.

Furthermore, Nuggets general manager Calvin Booth confirmed his team’s roster status on Tuesday.

“I think we need some help in the backcourt. We are going to try to continue to identify that and survey the market,” Booth told “Altitude TV” as reported by ESPN.

“We have a roster spot left and I think if we can add a high-level guard, we will be happy with that,” he added.

Additionally, Westbrook became expendable after Paul George left the Clippers for the Philadelphia 76ers.

George and Westbrook have been long-time friends on and off the court even before they first teamed up with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

DENVER TO SLOT IN WESTBROOK AS SIXTH MAN BEHIND MURRAY

Furthermore, Denver is expected to slot in Westbrook into a sixth-man role similar to his situation with the Clippers.

The volatile guard is likely to play behind starting playmaker Jamal Murray and rising guard Christian Braun.

Braun is expected to fill in the role vacated by Caldwell-Pope in Denver’s starting unit.

Meanwhile, Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence France insisted that they wanted a better fit for Westbrook moving forward.

“Russ is an all-time great, and we were fortunate to have him here. He lifted the energy and intensity of the group,” Frank said.

“We look forward to seeing him continue his decorated career,” he added.
