No ‘official bid’ from Arsenal for Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham

Arsenal have not made an ‘official bid’ for Tammy Abraham despite reported interest from the Emirates in the Chelsea forward.

Abraham has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs after falling out of favour under Thomas Tuchel, featuring for just 140 minutes in the league following the appointment of the German as head coach in January.

Aston Villa, Tottenham and West Ham have all been reported as potential destinations for the 23-year-old, whilst The Sun have claimed that Arsenal are favorites and are prepared to make a loan offer with an obligation to buy for £40m.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are understood to be aware of Arsenal’s interest in the England international, who is expected to leave the west London side this summer, though no official approach has yet been made by the Gunners.

The Italian journalist reports that while there is genuine interest from the Gunners, discussions over a deal are not at an ‘advanced’ stage at present.

Abraham’s situation presents a dilemma for Tuchel with Chelsea short of centre-forward options, the Blues having allowed Olivier Giroud to join AC Milan in a cut-price deal earlier this week.

Interest in Erling Haaland and Romelu Lukaku has failed to result in progress over a marquee arrival. Chelsea is now only having just Timo Werner, Abraham and teenager Armando Broja, who is set to be promoted to the first-team squad.

Abraham is unlikely to want to remain at Stamford Bridge for a further season following a frustrating period on the sidelines, the forward left out of the Chelsea squad entirely for their Champions League final victory over Manchester City, his lack of opportunity preventing the star from competing for a place in England’s Euro 2020 squad.
