PCB TO CONDUCT FITNESS TESTS TO PLAYERS AFTER RECENT PAKISTAN LOSS
Furthermore, expect the PCB to conduct fitness tests on players.
Pakistan absorbed a 0-2 loss to Bangladesh in a Test series.
Moreover, according to a source, players will have to pass stringent tests.
This will be a requirement before they receive central contracts from the PCB.
“The fitness tests will basically decide which players make the contracts this year,” the source said.
White ball head coach Gary Kirsten and the team’s physiotherapist and trainer will supervise the tests.
Kirsten and Jason Gillespie told the PCB that “their first criteria for selecting players will be their fitness status,” the source added.
GILLESPIE UNHAPPY WITH SOME OF THE PLAYERS’ FITNESS
Moreover, the source noted that Gillespie was said to be unhappy with some of the players’ fitness.
Gillespie “felt they were not able to sustain their intensity and endurance during all sessions of the Tests,” the source said.
Furthermore, Kirsten recently met with selectors and board officials and had similar sentiments regarding the players.
“The fitness tests will comprise everything to determine how fit a player is, gym training, stamina, and endurance,” the source said.
“Yo-yo and other tests will also be held,” he added.
PAKISTAN BOARD LIKELY TO REDUCE CENTRAL CONTRACTS FROM CURRENT 27 PLAYERS
Furthermore, the PCB is likely to reduce the awarding of central contracts to players.
Moreover, there are 27 players who currently receive central contracts from the board.
However, the Pakistan national team’s recent performances in all formats will influence the PCB’s decision.
The national team received flak from players and board officials after a recent loss to Bangladesh.
Incidentally, the PCB vows to complete the fitness tests from September 6 to 8 at Lahore.
