PCB TO LET ICC CONVINCE BCCI TO FIELD INDIA TEAM IN CHAMPIONS TROPHY 2025
Furthermore, the PCB is leaving the ICC to convince the BCCI to field an Indian team in the Champions Trophy 2025.
The PCB has already submitted a draft schedule and an event format, according to a PCB insider.
Moreover, the budget for the event was also submitted, the insider added.
“It is now up to the ICC how soon they circulate, discuss, and finalize the schedule of the Champions Trophy,” the PCB insider said.
“The PCB for its part in the draft schedule has suggested hosting all of India’s games in Lahore,” he added.
It would be recalled that the PCB submitted its final documentation for the hosting agreement to sign with the ICC.
This happened during the term of then PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja.
NO FORMAL GATHERING BETWEEN PCB CHIEF AND BCCI OFFICIAL ON SIDELINES OF ICC MEETINGS
Moreover, no formal gathering was arranged between PCB chief Moshin Naqvi and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah at the sidelines of the ICC meetings.
Furthermore, the PCB initially submitted its interest in hosting the event back in 2021.
The ICC then awarded hosting rights to India in 2021.
This was during the time of Ehsan Mani as Chairman of the board.
On the other hand, the ICC would later award hosting rights in 2022,
India has maintained that the central government will decide if it can field a team to play in Pakistan.
For next year’s Champions Trophy, the India-Pakistan match has been scheduled for March 1.
FORMER PAKISTAN CRICKETER SLAMS BCCI, SHAH
Meanwhile, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali slammed the BCCI and its secretary Jay Shah.
“There are 5-6 boards who will wag their tails and do what Jay Shah says,” Ali said on his YouTube channel.
“If India is not willing to play in our country, then we shouldn’t agree to play the series in another country either,” he added.
Furthermore, the former cricketer urged the PCB to “say no to playing in a third country.”
For its part, the PCB insisted that it has “done what was required of it as hosts of the Champions Trophy.”
The ICC was earlier urged to hold India’s Champions Trophy 2025 matches in either Sri Lanka or Dubai.
Moreover, tense relations between India and Pakistan have prevented the BCCI from sending a New Delhi-based team to Islamabad.
The last time India played at a cricket tournament in Pakistan was at the 2008 Asia Cup.
