PEGULA STOPS KENIN IN ALL-AMERICAN FINAL
Pegula stops Kenin, 6-3, 7-5, in an all-American final – a first time it happened in this tournament since 1990.
Furthermore, the 31-year-old world No.4 broke he 26-year-old No44 opponent to take the opening set.
Moreover, Kenin offered stiff resistance in the seond after she took a 5-1 lead.
However, Pegula saved three set points before winning six games in a row.
The top seed completed a tough but rewarding week.
She needed three sets to outlast Ekaterina Alexandrova, 6-2 2-6 7-5, in the semifinals on Saturday.

JESSICA REWARDED WITH TITLE AFTER MIAMI OPEN FINAL LOSS TO SABALENKA
Pegula was rewarded after she came off a Miami Open final loss to world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus.
Moreover, the No.4 made a smooth transition from the hardcourts in Miami to the green clay surface in Charleston.
Furthermore, she was thus rewarded with her second singles title this season and eighth in her career.
“To be able to come here this week after a long two weeks in Miami and take the title is just incredible,” Pegula told the Tennis Channel.
“I just wanted to tell myself to get momentum for the third, because coming into a third like that never feels good,” she added.

Meanwhile, Charleston Open organizers vow to implement equal prize money pay to both men and women’s singles events next year.
Furthermore, the tournament extended its deal with title partner Credit One Bank through 2031.
Moreover, the move will make the Charleston Open the first standalone WTA 500 tournament to raise prize money before its 2033 goal.
“This commitment reflects our dedication to advancing equity both on and off the court,” Credit One Bank’s senior vice president of brand and advertising Amber Greenwalt sad.
“We continue to champion progress and opportunity for all,” she added.
The 2026 Charleston Open’s prize money will go up to approximately USD1.5 million from the USD1.06 million this year.
