POORAN RETIRES FROM INTERNATIONAL CRICKET ‘AFTER MUCH THOUGHT AND REFLECTION’

Pooran retires from international cricket on Tuesday “after much thought and reflection” on his future.

Furthermore, the Trinidad and Tobago born cricketer played for 54 ODIs (One-Day Internationals) for West Indies and a record 106 T20Is (Twenty20 Internationals).

Moreover, he recalled the “joy, purpose, and unforgettable memories” of his 30 matches as West Indies captain across both T20 and ODI formats.

“After much thought and reflection, I’ve decided to announce my retirement from international cricket. Wearing that maroon, standing for the anthem and giving everything I had each time I stepped on the field,” Pooran said.

“It’s hard to put into words what that truly means to me,” he added.

CRICKET WEST INDIES THANKS POORAN AS A ‘WORLD-CLASS PLAYER AND A GAME-CHANGER’

Cricket West Indies (CWI) thanked Pooran who it described as a “world class player and a game-changer.”

Moreover, the left-hander will leave the international stage as West Indies’ most-capped T20I player and leading run scorer with 2,275 runs.

Furthermore, CWI confirmed Pooran informed them of his decision early.

“Nicholas (Pooran) officially informed the (CWI) leadership of his decision to retire from international cricket,” the CWI said.

“(This brings) to a close a significant chapter in his career,” it added.

2019 ICC WORLD CUP, IPL STINTS AMONG POORAN HIGHLIGHTS

The 2019 ICC (International Cricket Council) World Cup and his stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL) are also among Pooran’s career highlights.

Furthermore, the wicket-keeper-batter scored 367 runs at an average of 52.47 at the 2019 ICC World Cup, while his sole ODI century – an 118 off 103 balls against Sri Lanka, remains a highlight.

Moreover, Pooran played with the Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad (2022) before joining the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL in 2023.

However, he assured West Indies of his continued support even after his international retirement.

“Though this international chapter of my career closes, my love for West Indies cricket will never die,” Pooran said.

“I wish the team and the region nothing but success and strength for the road ahead,” he added.
