Moreover, the Spurs (11-9) are within the top 10 in the highly-competitive Western Conference as of Monday.

Furthermore, the 38-yer-old Johnson has been doing an admirable job in Popovich’s absence.

Johnson has steered San Antonio in winning four of its last five matches, including a 127-125 win over the Sacramento Kings on Monday.

The Spurs’ lone loss in that span was a 119-101 setback to the Los Angeles Lakers last Thursday.

Johnson has since increased the playing time of No.4 overall pick Stephon Castle, who has combined with Victor Wembanyama that led to media coining their collective moniker “Area 51.”

The moniker was a combination of the jersey numbers of Castle (5) and Wembanyama (1).
