SPURS EXPECTED TO ‘PLAY OUR PART’ WHILE COACH IS OUT: OFFICIAL

The Spurs, an official said, are expected to “play our part” while their coach is out.

Moreover, Spurs general manager Brian Wright expects the team to “play our role” as they await Popovich’s return.

“It is all on us to play our part, to play our role, to continue to lean on each other, and be there for one another,” Wright said.

“But it takes a village, and we’re all committed to that,” he added.

The 75-year-old Popovich is currently the oldest coach in NBA history.

JOHNSON MIGHT COACH SPURS IN ‘FORESEEABLE FUTURE,’ SAYS SOURCE

A source said lead assistant Mitch Johnson might coach Spurs in the “foreseeable future” as Popovich remains sidelined.

Furthermore, the 37-year-old Johnson insisted that no one person alone can fill Popovich’s shoes.

“As I said before, it’s not one person’s job to fill Pop’s shoes in this moment,” the Spurs manager said.

“It’s a village. And so, as I said, we’ve all bonded together,” he added.

In his 29 seasons with the Spurs, Popovich led the club to five NBA titles, 1,390 victories, and another 170 wins in the postseason.

Meanwhile, Victor Wembanyama dropped a career-high 50 points on 8-of-16 on three-pointers with six rebounds, two assists and three blocks in the Spurs’ 139-130 win over the Washington Wizards.
