The award was blasted ‘a joke’ by many fans, as they thought Karim Benzema should have been a more deserved winner.

Benzema missed out on the 2022 World Cup with France due to injury but was a key player for Real Madrid as they won the Champions League for a 14th time.
The striker also received 2022 Ballon d’Or and UEFA Player of the year while won the La Liga Player of the Season.
