He grabbed four goals in four starts for Al Nassr in the Arab Club Champions Cup.
Ronaldo’s Al Nassr struggle to beat Al Shorta
Al-Nassr made it to the semifinals of the regional competition for the first time since the turn of the century.
The last time the Saudi club was at this competition stage was in 1995, when they lost to fellow Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal after a penalty shootout.
This time, Ronaldo made sure they would avoid repeating the disappointment.
Al Nassr was in control for most of the game, but it failed to make the most of its dominance.
Former Real Madrid and Man United forward Ronaldo thought he could break the deadlock when he put the ball in the back of the net in the first half, but the referee called it an off-side.
It took the Saudi Pro League side quite late in the second half to score the match-winning goal. New signing winger Sadio Mane danced his way through the Al Shorta defence before he was brought down.
The referee initially didn’t give a penalty but relented after consulting with the VAR. Ronaldo stepped up and did what he was best at as the Portugal striker converted from the spot to give his side the lead, which proved to be enough in the end.
Al Nassr will take on the Saudi winner club in the final on Saturday, which will be decided in the second semifinals to be played between Al-Hilal and Al-Shabab.
