SANTNER TO GO FULL-TIME AS BLACK CAPS WHITE-BALL CAPTAIN, REPLACES WILLIAMSON

Expect Santner to go full-time as the Black Caps’ white-ball captain replacing Kane Williamson.

Furthermore, Williamson stepped down after the T20 World Cup earlier this year.

Moreover, the NZ captain will start on his role in his team’s three-match home ODI series against Sri Lanka starting on December 28.

He will also take on the role in his first major event – Champions Trophy 2025 in February and the 2026 Two World Cup.

The 32-year-old carries an impressive resume with 107 one-day internationals (ODI) and 106 T20is.

TASKS TO LEAD NZ WHITE-BALL FORMATS A ‘HUGE HONOR,’ SAYS SANTNER

Moreover, the tasks of leading New Zealand’s white-ball formats is a “huge honor,” says Santer.

He noted that is is a “privilege” to lead his country.

Furthermore, he is thrilled to take on “a new challenge” for Kiwi cricket fans.

“It’s obviously a huge honor and a privilege to be asked,” Santner said.

“It’s a new challenge and I’m excited to get stuck into the important period of white-ball cricket that we have ahead of us,” he added.

Santner noted that leading his country in two formats is “special” for him since he envisioned it as a kid.

STEAD VOUCHES FOR NEW CAPTAIN AS COACH NOT ADDING TO LATHAM’S WORKLOAD

Furthermore, coach Gary Stead vouched for Santner.

He noted that he doesn’t want to add to Tom Latham’s workload as a Test captain.

Moreover, the coach described Santner as a “fantastic team man” who “leads by example.”

“Mitch is a fantastic team man and leads by example in all facets of the game. He’s an incredibly calm and collected personality and he has a huge amount of respect in the changing room,” Stead said.

“In Tom, we have an accomplished and experienced captain who has led the side admirably across all three formats,” he added.

Santner hopes to carry the momentum of his Player of the Match performances against India in Pune and England in Hamilton for next year.
