SHAH BELIEVES 2028 LA OLYMPICS ‘SIGNIFICANT’ FOR CRICKET’S GROWTH

Furthermore, Shah believes the 2028 LA Olympics is “significant” for cricket’s growth as a global sport.

He was named the next chair of the ICC (International Cricket Council).

He ran unopposed.

“The inclusion of our sport (cricket) in the Olympics at LA 2028 represents a significant inflexion point,” Shah said.

“I am confident that it will drive the sport forward in unprecedented ways,” he added.

Moreover, the honorary secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) cited the need to “globalize cricket.”

NEW ICC CHAIR ASSURES CRICKET TO BE ‘MORE INCLUSIVE AND POPULAR’

Moreover, the new ICC chair assured that cricket will be “more inclusive and popular than ever before.”

Shah was the sole nominee for the chairmanship.

“I am committed to working closely with the ICC team and our member nations to further globalize cricket,” Shah said.

“Our goal is to make cricket more inclusive and popular than ever before,” he added.

Furthermore, Shah will replace current chair Greg Barclay starting on December 1.

Incidentally, Barclay decided not to seek a third term for the ICC post.

GAMBHIR, BINNY, PANDYA LAUD SHAH’S ASCENSION AS NEXT ICC CHAIR

Furthermore, India head coach Gautam Gambhir, BCCI president Roger Binny, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya lauded Shah’s ascension as the next ICC chair.

Gambhir believes cricket “will grow tremendously” under Shah’s watch in his new position.

“Many congrats @JayShah bhai! I know cricket will grow tremendously under your exceptional leadership,” Gambhir said.

Moreover, Binny described Shah as BCCI’s “strong pillar.”

“He (Shah) has been a strong pillar as the BCCI Honorary Secretary and the President of the Asian Cricket Council,” the BCCI leader said.

On the other hand, Pandya, a member of India’s T20 World Cup 2024 champion squad, is convinced Shah’s vision will take the ICC to greater heights.

“Look forward to seeing you (Shah) take cricket to even greater heights. Your vision and drive will help ICC, just like it did with BCCI,” Pandya said.
