SHARMA RETIRES FROM TEST CRICKET, TO PLAY IN ODI FORMAT
Sharma retires from Test cricket but he clarified that he will still play in the ODI (One-Day International) format.
Furthermore, the 38-year-old top-order batter made it official by announcing it on social media Wednesday.
Moreover, Sharma last played the T20I (Twenty20 International) format at the 2024 T20 World Cup, which India won.
“Hello everyone I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites,” Sharma wrote on Instagram.
“Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format,” he added.
ROHIT LEAVES T20 FORMAT WITH IMPRESSIVE NUMBERS
Sharma will leave the T20 format with impressive numbers that will etch a lasting mark among Indian cricket fans.
Moreover, the veteran scored 4,301 runs in 67 Tests with 12 hundreds and 18 half centuries at an average of 40.57.
Furthermore, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) thanked him for his accomplishments.
“Thank you, Captain. End of an era in whites! @ImRo45 bids adieu to Test cricket. He will continue to lead India in ODIs. We are proud of you, Hitman,” the BCCI posted on its website.
“From pulling fast bowlers into the stands to leading with calm authority – Rohit Sharma’s Test journey was worth every watch, every roar, every rise,” the MCA added.

GILL LOOMS TO REPLACE SHARMA AS NEXT INDIA CAPTAIN
Furthermore, Gill looms to replace Sharma as the next India Test captain.
Moreover, sources said Gill was preferred over Jasprit Bumrah, who is likely to miss several Tests at the World Test Championship cycle for work management.
Additionally, the 25-year-old opening batter is the current vice-captain of India’s Test team.
Additionally, he led in two of the five Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Audtralia in December 2025 and January this year.
“Shubman Gill is being spoken about/considered for captaincy. There will be a few more changes because this kickstarts the WTC cycle,” sources were quoted by NDTV as saying.
“The selectors will not go back. They are likely to look ahead,” they added.
