BWF MULLS USING NEW SCORING SYSTEM

Meanwhile, the BWF is mulling a plan to use a new scoring system starting in selected tournaments.

Furthermore, the BWF Council, the federation’s decision-making arm, reminded stakeholders that the 3×15 scoring system was endorsed at its meeting Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on November 9 last year.

Moreover, the proposed scoring system seeks to replace the current 3×21 in an effort to speed up the games.

The BWF plans to try out the new system at its Continental Championships, Grade 3 tournaments, national, and international leagues this year.

“BWF Council will make a final decision whether to propose this new system to the BWF Annual General Meeting 2026,” the federation said.

This came after former International Badminton Federation president Korn Dabbarasi admitted that it “was apparent the majority of the members still favoured the old scoring system.”
