Spain wins Euro 2024, defeating England 2-1 in a dramatic final
Spain beat England 2-1 in a dramatic final of Euro 2024 to be crowned champions for a record fourth time and this year as an unbeaten side with seven straight victories.

It was a glorious Sunday evening in Berlin, with the ending ceremony and a massive final. Nico Williams put Spain ahead early in the second half, but the joy was cancelled out by another youngster from England, Cole Palmer, after the hour mark.
With just five minutes remaining, Spain restored the lead when substitute Mikel Oyarzabal tapped home a nice finish from an inch-perfect pass from Cucurella to clinch a victory for La Roja.
It is Spain’s fourth Euro title – having previously won in 1964, 2008, and 2012 – while for England, it is heartbreak for a second straight European, having been beaten by Italy on penalties at Euro 2020.

It was tight fashion when the final kickstarted, and both teams did not want to risk. The possession belonged to Spain, with over 60% in the opening 30 minutes. However, there were no outcomes, as England’s defense was solid.
There were no clear goalscoring chances in the first half, except for Phil Foden’s close-range attempt, which Unai Simon stopped.
Halftime saw a massive blow for Spain when Rodri was forced off through injury, and Martin Zubimendi replaced the Man City midfielder.
Two minutes into the second half, Spain broke the deadlock thanks to a superb finish by 22-year-old Nico Williams, who had just celebrated his birthday on 13th July and now became the youngest scorer of a Euro final.
The ball started from Dani Carvajal’s one-touch pass to Yamal, who made the run before assisting his homie to give Spain the lead from an acceptable finish pass from Jordan Pickford.
The goal seemed to kick Spain up a gear. Dani Olmo, Williams, and Alvaro Morata threatened to double the advantage, but chances came and went.
As the Three Lions sought a way back into the game, manager Gareth Southgate boldly decided to bring off captain and all-time record goalscorer Harry Kane and replace him with semifinal hero Ollie Watkins.
Spain almost got a second through Yamal – who became the youngest player ever to feature in a Euro or World Cup final when he stepped onto the field on Sunday night – but Everton goalkeeper Pickford stuck out a big hand to deny the Barcelona prodigy.
Chelsea midfielder Palmer, who had been introduced into the game for 19-year-old Kobbie Mainoo just minutes before, latched onto a neat set-up from Bellingham and caressed an inch-perfect effort into the bottom corner to level the score.
Yamal had his chance to break Williams’s record of being the youngest scorer when he had a one-on-one with Pickford. Still, the England goalkeeper parried away the 17-year-old’s effort.
As time ticked away and extra time loomed, Spain finally got its deserved late goal through another flowing move, which ended with Cucurella sliding in an appealing cross for Oyarzabal to steer home and spark wild celebrations.
England had become renowned for late heroics at Euro 2024, and the squad needed yet another moment of magic if it had any hopes of getting back into the game.
As the clock hit 90 minutes, Declan Rice headed a corner towards goal. Simón parried it out to Guehi, whose effort was cleared off the line by RB Leipzig man Dani Olmo as Spain’s defense celebrated thwarting another English attack.
The Three Lions tried everything they could to win it in extra time, but after four additional minutes, referee François Letexier blew the final whistle, and Spain’s players fell to the ground before joining the sea of fans clad in red and yellow inside the stadium in celebration.
Spain won big at Euro 2024
Ahead of lifting the trophy, Rodri was named the Euro 2024 Player of the Tournament, while Yamal was named the Young Player of the Tournament.
Yamal, who turned 17 the day before the final, appeared in every one of Spain’s seven games in Germany, providing a tournament-high four assists and scoring one goal: a stunning, record-breaking effort in the semifinal against France which made him the youngest ever scorer in Euro history.
England’s 58-year search for a major men’s international trophy continued after it won the World Cup in 1966.
