SWIATEK IN MADRID LAST 8, CREDITS BLACKOUT ‘TO JUST RECOVER’ AFTER MATCHES SUSPENDED

Swiatek in the Madrid quarterfinals became official after her 6-0, 6-7 (3), 6-4 victory over Diana Shnaider.

Furthermore, the 23-year-old Polish world No.2 took advantage of what she described as a “free day” caused by a power outage that suspended matches on Monday.

Moreover, Swiatek relaxed at the hotel and took food from the tournament site until the power was back on.

“I liked yesterday…. think the whole world was just more relaxed, kind of, obviously the people who didn’t lose because of this,” the Polish star said.

“I enjoyed the time off, and I tried to just recover, because we need to savor these free days, for sure,” she added.

ZVEREV LOSES TO CERUNDOLO

Zverev failed to sustain his run in Madrid after he lost to Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina, 7-5, 6-3.

Moreover, the No.21-ranked player broke serve once in each set as he handled the German No.2 seed at center court,

Furthermore, Cerundolo also saved the only break opportunity he conceded during the match to pull off the win.

“It was a very tough match againt the No.2 in the world (Zverev),” the Argentine said.

The loss came after Zverev pushed for rule change due to a disputed call he had in his previous win over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

DRAPER, DE MINAUR, MUSETTI ADVANCE

Jack Draper, Alex De Minaur, and Lorenzo Musetti joined Cerundolo as they advanced into the next round.

Furthermore, Draper moved on after leading Matteo Berrettini, 7-6(2), when the No.31-ranked player withdraw due to an apparent abdominal injury.

Moreover, de Minaur tied Carlos Alcaraz with an ATP Tour-keading 24th victory this season.

This came after his 6-3, 7-6(3) win over Denis Shapovalov.

“I think he (Berrettini) said his abs were pulling. I’ve had injuries in the past,” the Briton said.

Meanwhile, De Minaur will next face Musetti.

Musetti was a 7-5, 7-6(3) winner over 2019 runnerup Stefanos Tsitsipas o Greece.
