TEAM USA ‘AVENGERS’ OFFICIALLY PROCLAIMED BY LEBRON, CURRY AFTER PARIS WIN

Furthermore, the Team USA “Avengers” were proclaimed by James and Curry after their golden performance in Paris.

James didn’t hesitate when he was asked by NBC’s Zora Stephenson about the Paris-winning squad’s name.

“The Avengers,” the Los Angeles Lakers’ veteran said.

Moreover, Curry would later use the name on social media to celebrate his first-ever Olympic gold medal.

“Avengers Unite!” the Golden State Warriors guard said on X (formerly Twitter).

Team USA defeated France, 98-87, in the Olympic men’s basketball final at the Bercy Arena in Paris on Saturday.

2024 PARIS-WINNING SQUAD FOLLOWS ‘DREAM TEAM, ‘REDEEM TEAM’

Moreover, the 2024 Paris Games-winning squad follows the US “Dream Team” from the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and the “Redeem Team” in the 2008 Beijing Games.

James, Curry, and Kevin Durant lead the triumvirate of this year’s title squad.

Fans often compared the trio to their “Avengers” counterparts Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor, portrayed in the movies by Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth.

Some fans often associate James with Downey’s Iron Man due to his durability in the game at 39 years old.

However, recent images on social media also show Jayson Tatum, another Team USA, member as the superhero persona of Tony Stark.

Furthermore, James is also associated with Cap by being dubbed as “LeMerica,” although Durant also gets compared with Evans’ character.

Curry also gets multiple comparisons either as Hemsworth’s Thor or Hawkeye.

Hawkeye is the sharp-shooting archer played by Jeremy Renner in the films.

Additionally, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, a Team USA reserve, is often associated with his moniker and superhero counterpart “AntMan,” played by Paul Rudd.

‘MELO COINED ‘AVENGERS’ BEFORE PARIS GAMES ON IGGY PODCAST

Furthermore, former “Team USA “Redeem Team” and retired NBA star Carmelo “Melo” Anthony” coined the “Avengers” tag.

The name was used by Melo in a podcast by former NBA player Andre “Iggy” Iguodala.

“Because you got to think to your point, the international game has grown. International players damn near has taken over the league, right?” Melo asked.

“So now we gotta go put our Avengers together to go take on these other countries,” he added.

Anthony, a Hall of Famer known for his stellar career with the Denver Nuggets and the New York Knicks, went to Paris to watch Team USA win it all.

However, France’s 20-year-old phenom Victor Wembanyama has been tagged as a young Thanos challenging Team USA in the final.

It remains to be seen if Wembanyama, the 2023 top overall rookie pick of the San Antonio Spurs, will give more problems like Thanos to the Team USA “Avengers” in the 2028 LA Olympics.
