Davis to retire from boxing by 2025
“Tank” announced his retirement during press conference for his upcoming fight against WBA super featherweight champion Lamont Roach in March.
“After next year, I’m out of this… Out of the sport,” Davis said.
When asked later to elaborate upon his decision, Davis said:”It’s garbage… This s- is garbage, garbage… Fed up. Fed up with all the s-.”
Davis said he plans to fight three times in 2025 before calling it a career.
“I’ll be a G for myself forever”
Davis, 30, is one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world today.
The American fighter holds a perfect 30-0 record, with 28 of those wins coming by way of knockout.
He has beaten the likes of Ryan Garcia, Frank Martin, Leo Santa Cruz, and Isaac Cruz.
However, Davis has never fought more than twice in a year since 2019.
Darshan Desai of Yahoo Sports’ Uncrowned stated that a rematch with Garcia, along with fights against Vasiliy Lomachenko or Shakur Stevenson, remain targets for Davis in 2025.
Nonetheless, Davis said that he has nothing to prove in the sport, as he will “always be the greatest.”
“I don’t even care about that, brother. I don’t even care about that, and where I come from, brother, I will always be the greatest. I’ll be a G for myself forever,” he said.
