US WINS PARIS OLYMPICS MEDAL TALLY, TIES CHINA WITH 40 GOLDS
The US wins the 2024 Paris Games medal tally after tying China with 40 golds and collecting 126 total medals.
Furthermore, the Americans needed a close gold medal victory over France in women’s basketball to force a tie with China for the most gold at the Games.
Moreover, the US wound up with a 40-42-44 gold-silver-bronze medal tally as the smoke of battle cleared Sunday.
China was second with 91 total golds based on a 40-27-24 tally, while Japan was a distant third with 45 overall medals (20-12-13).
On the other hand, Australia came in fourth with 53 medals (18-19-16), while host France completed the top five with 64 medals (16-26-22).
The US collected five medals on Sunday to set up the close finish for most golds.
CHINA LED GOLD TALLY, 39-38, HEADING INTO LAST DAY OF GAMES
Moreover, China led the gold medal tally, 39-38, heading into the last day of the Games before the US made its move.
Li Wenwen struck gold in the women’s +81kg in weightlifting before Jennifer Valente responded for the US by winning the women’s omnium title in cycling rack.
That set up a must-win for the US in women’s basketball; where Team USA coach Cheryl Reeve was aware of the medal tally.
“I saw the medal count beforehand, so I knew,” Reeve said before their match against France.
“That’s what we need – more pressure,” she added.
Furthermore, the US also picked up a silver in women’s freestyle 76 kg (weightlifting).
It also won team silver in women’s volleyball, and a bronze in men’s water polo on Sunday.

TEAM USA DREW STRENGTH AT ATHLETICS, SWIMMING TO RULE PARIS
Furthermore, Team Team USA drew its strength in athletics and swimming to rule the medal tally in Paris.
Moreover, the Americans ruled the track with 14 golds, 11 silvers, and nine silvers for 34 overall medals.
In swimming, Team USA collected eight golds, 13 silvers, and seven bronzes for 28 total medals.
China dominated with eight golds in diving added to its two silvers, and a bronze for 11 total medals.
China also had multiple golds in shooting (5-2-3) for 10 medals and weightlifting with five golds.
It was the eighth overall medal victory for the US since the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
The “Unified Team” featured athletes from ex-Soviet republics in Spain.
It had 112 total medals based on 45 golds to beat the Americans in Spain.
