VAZQUEZ HAILED AS ‘ONE OF THE BEST’ AFTER MEXICAN CHAMP PASSES AWAY
Vazquez (44-5, 32 KOs) was hailed as “one of the best” after the Mexican champ passed away on Monday.
He was 46.
Furthermore, the Mexican three-time junior featherweight world champion received an ultimate compliment from Freddie Roach.
Moreover, the Hall of Fame trainer called Vazquez as “one of the best I ever had the privilege of working with.”
Legendary American trainer and commentator Teddy Atlas posted a picture of the Mexican great before heaping praises on him on social media.
“You don’t need to go to Webster’s Dictionary for a definition of what a fighter is nd should be. It’s right here,” Atlas said.
US MANAGER ESPINOZA SAYS VAZQUEZ ‘FOUGHT FOR THE FANS, NOTHING ELSE’
US manager Frank Espinoza described Vazquez as a fighter who “fought for the fans and nothing else.”
Furthermore, the manager lauded the Mexican’s fearless and aggressive fighting style.
“He fought for the fans, that’s what gave him the most adrenaline. Didn’t do it for the money, nothing else,” Espinoza said.
“He did it to win and give satisfaction to the people. He had the heart of a warrior, of a champion,” he added.
Moreover, Vasquez is known for his memorable rivalry against compatriot Rafael Marquez, whom he fought four times.
Vasquez and Marquez split their four matches, winning twice each time.
WBC PRESIDENT SULAIMAN PAYS RESPECTS TO ‘EL MAGNIFICO’
World Boxing Council (WBC) president Mauricio Sulaiman paid tribute to the fighter also known as “El Magnifico.”
Moreover, Sulaiman was the first on Tuesday who learned of the Mexican champion’s death.
“Israel is finally resting in peace. May God provide his family with strength we extend all the support to his wife Laura, his kids, family, and friends during this difficult time,” Sulaiman said.
Vasquez claimed the IBF super bantamweight title over Jose Luis Valbuena in 2004 before taking the WBC belt over Oscar Larios in 2005.
