Villarreal smashed Mallorca in decisive La Liga fixture
Villarreal and Mallorca went into their clash at the Estadio de la Cerámica level on points in La Liga, both sitting in fifth and sixth places with 30 points each. The game carried significant importance with both teams chasing a win to close the gap on Athletic Bilbao.
Villarreal made the most of their home advantage, starting strong and putting pressure on Mallorca’s defense. In the 20th minute, Logan Costa capitalized on a perfect assist from Dani Parejo to open the scoring for the “Yellow Submarine.”
What followed was a rapid collapse for Mallorca. Just four minutes later, Alex Baena doubled Villarreal’s lead with a clinical finish. The floodgates stayed open as Dani Parejo added a third goal for the home side in the 26th minute.
The relentless attack continued, and by the 28th minute, Yeremy Pino made it 4-0 for Villarreal. In just nine minutes, the home team had turned the game into a one-sided affair. From there, Villarreal comfortably managed the rest of the match and secured a dominant 4-0 victory.
A record equalled for Villarreal
The feat marked a historic moment for Villarreal, as this was the fastest they had ever scored four goals, breaking their previous record of 14 minutes set in 2003. It was also the quickest four-goal burst in La Liga since Barcelona managed the same feat against Deportivo Alavés in 2017.
