What happened
This is Washington’s third straight injury-interrupted season and the allrounder will no longer take part in the ongoing IPL season, it has been confirmed earlier today.
Washington played seven matches for Sunrisers this season, scored 60 runs from five innings and contributed for his team to be in ninth on the table.
No immediate replacement has been announced so far as the club announced: “Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 due to a hamstring injury. Speedy recovery, Washi,”.
Washington’s injury record
The latest hamstring is only among those injuries having hampered the 23-year-old in years.
Sundar has been known to have series of fitness concerns and illnesses. In 2021, he was forced to miss the second leg of Indian Premier League due to a finger injury, and a Covid-19 infection kept him away from international cricket following the end of the season.
A year later, bad luck seemed to find him again as he was then forced to miss the ODI leg of India’s tour of South Africa in January 2022 after testing positive for Covid-19, while a hamstring injury kept him out of the three-match T20I series at home against West Indies.
During IPL 2022, Washington missed four games due to a split webbing in his bowling hand.
Last August, Washington injured his left shoulder while fielding for Lancashire during a county stint, and subsequently was ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.
