Young, Irving heading to the NBA All-Star Game

Commissioner Adam Silver announced that he has added Young to the All-Star roster as an injury replacement for Milwaukee forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Antetokounmp, 30, is out with a calf strain.

Young, 26, will replace Antetokounmpo on Team Chuck, the eight-man squad drafted last week by TNT analyst Charles Barkley.

The 6-foot-1 floor general joins a roster stacked with international superstars.

He’ll play alongside Denver’s Nikola Jokic (Serbia), Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Canada), San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama (France), Indiana’s Pascal Siakam (Cameroon), Houston’s Alperen Sengun (Turkey), New York’s Karl-Anthony Towns (whose mother is Dominican), and Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell (whose mother is from Panama).

Meanwhile, Silver also selected Irving, 32, for the All-Star Game, where he will replace his Mavs teammate Anthony Davis.

Irving will play for Team Shaq, selected by TNT analyst Shaquille O’Neal.

Team Shaq includes LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, Boston’s Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, Phoenix’s Kevin Durant, Milwaukee’s Damian Lillard, and James Harden of the Los Angeles Clippers.

NBA’s great point guards

Young is the NBA’s assist leader this season with 11.4 per game and has now earned his fourth All-Star selection.

This is the second straight year Young has been added to the roster as an injury replacement.

He also made All-Star appearances in 2020 and 2022.
