Euro 2024 Highlights: Xavi Simons had a second-half goal ruled in controversies as Netherlands and France settled for the first goalless draw of the ongoing tournament.
Kylian Mbappe was an unused sub, while Antoine Griezmann had a forgettable night, while Ronald Koeman’s side fumed at VAR controversies.
A highly expected clash ended without goals from both sides as Group D still opened for top spots.

Euro Highlights – Netherlands 0-0 France
Didier Deschamps decided to rest Mbappe, who broke his nose in the win against Austria early this week and entrusted Griezmann or Thuram at the attacking lines.
The French tactician almost got it right if the Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan strikers were having a fine day in the office.
The Dutch should have been down two or three goals if Griezmann had not missed many massive chances. Being set up by Adrien Rabiot, who should have finished, Girezmann missed a close-range sitter before sending it wide.

Wout Weghorst, who scored a late winner against Poland in the Netherlands’ first game, was again sent on in the closing stages but could not find the net this time.
But the Netherlands will feel most aggrieved at not claiming the three points after Simons’ strike was chalked off.
The 21-year-old’s drive from distance was disallowed by the on-field officials, led by referee Anthony Taylor, for an apparent obstruction on the goalkeeper by Denzel Dumfries, who was standing in an offside position.
That prompted a lengthy check by the video assistant referee, who ultimately backed up the original decision.
With Weghorst again having to make do with a place on the bench, Dutch supporters chanted his name in the second half. Although he was brought on with 11 minutes to go, it was not enough time for him to make an impact on this occasion.
Netherlands denied after a long VAR check
Was it justified to rule out Simon’s goal?
It was disallowed almost immediately before VAR intervened for the longest check of the tournament so far.
The PSG youngster’s smash was good enough to beat Mike Maignan, but Dumfries was in the post without making any move or attempt to block the AC Milan keeper.
Still, Dumfries was deemed offside, angered the Dutch fans as he stood next to Maignan.
The result means both sides are on Group D’s four points, while Poland is eliminated.
