Romania’s win was massive, and it was certainly more than just three points, as this was their only second win in the Euros.
Their only previous win at the Euros came in 2000, where a late Ionel Ganea penalty helped them beat England 3-2 in the group stage.
Romania 3-0 Ukraine – Highlights
Romania started the first half with more chances despite being 24 places below their opponents in the world rankings. They had warmed up for the Euros with disappointing goalless draws against Bulgaria and Liechtenstein.
However, the difference was a surprising name – Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League hero, Lunin, who had a poor game.

The Los Blancos keeper delivered a bad pass, which started the play and led to the opening goal.
Captain Stanciu gave Romania the lead in the 29th minute, finding the top corner with a brilliant strike from 20 yards out.
Romania dominated, and minutes later, Stanciu almost scored directly from a corner with another curling effort that beat Lunin and cannoned off the crossbar.
Razvan Marin doubled the Tricolours’ lead after 53 minutes with a long-range effort that squeezed under the Ukraine goalkeeper.
Real Madrid goalkeeper Lunin had a poor game and was also at fault for Romania’s second when he misjudged the flight of Marin’s strike. The ball went under his attempted save.
Four minutes later, Edward Iordanescu’s side added a third to confirm their biggest win in the tournament. Dragus finished following a mazy run from lively Parma forward Man.
